Create a new blank PDF
File ▸ New PDF… creates an empty document of the page size, orientation and number of pages you choose, ready for pictures, text and shapes. In the app: Help ▸ Show me.
Steps
- Choose File ▸ New PDF… (Ctrl+Shift+N), or click New PDF… on the start screen.
- Pick a Page size. For Custom…, enter the Width and Height in millimetres (25.4 to 5080 mm each).
- Pick the Orientation: Portrait (upright) or Landscape (long side across).
- Enter the Number of pages (1 to 500).
- Click Create. The document opens in a new tab named Untitled 1.pdf (then Untitled 2, and so on).
Your choices are remembered for the next new PDF.
Page sizes
| Size | Portrait width × height |
|---|---|
| A4 | 210 × 297 mm |
| A3 | 297 × 420 mm |
| A5 | 148 × 210 mm |
| Letter | 215.9 × 279.4 mm (8.5 × 11 in) |
| Legal | 215.9 × 355.6 mm (8.5 × 14 in) |
| Custom | 25.4 to 5080 mm per side |
Saving
The new document is not saved until you save it. An untouched blank tab closes without asking. File ▸ Save asks where to save it and suggests the tab name, for example Untitled 1.pdf.
