ASH ELDAS beside full power-system platforms.
Full power-system platforms and a design-and-verification suite are built for different jobs. They overlap in a few studies. This page says where, and where ELDAS stops.
Different tools, different jobs.
The first two descriptions are general: the exact scope differs by product and version, so check each vendor's own documentation before relying on them.
Model and run the system
Integrated platforms for power flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, dynamics and transients, and in some cases operations tools such as power management and SCADA.
One task, done quickly
Tools for one calculation, such as cable sizing, that give an answer without a project around it.
Electrical design and verification
One browser file, offline: load register, boards and feeders, cable sizing, protection, MV, lighting, ELV & ICT, earthing and lightning, solar farm, schedules and a calculation report with the clause behind every figure. A Studies tab builds a network from the LV and MV model for load flow, short circuit and protection coordination as an independent second opinion.
Use the platform for the system model, ELDAS for the design and the check.
A study platform answers how the system behaves. A design suite produces the sized, scheduled and documented design, and checks the one someone else submitted.
The network itself
- Dynamics, transients and stability studies
- Plant operation: power management, SCADA, training simulators
- Large network models with many sources
The design and its check
- Sizing and scheduling cables, boards, protection, earthing and lighting, with the clause on every figure
- Single-line and riser diagrams, BOQ and the calculation report
- Checking a contractor's schedule or calculation: review codes A / B / C and CRS rows
A second opinion helps
- The study model and the design should agree: schedules and results export to Excel and CSV for a line-by-line comparison
- The reviewer wants an independent calculation of the submitted values
Where ELDAS is not the tool.
The same limits are stated on the ELDAS page.
- It does not run dynamic or transient-stability studies, and it is not an operations or SCADA system.
- In the Studies tab one transformer feeds the LV model, and a solar grid connection is modelled by hand.
- MV ratings from IEC 60502-2, 60287 and 62271 are labelled engineering defaults.
- Lighting is indoor only, with no luminaire library; there is no IEC 62305-2 risk assessment.
- It is an aid to qualified engineers: the responsible engineer checks and approves the result.

Does ASH ELDAS replace a full power-system analysis platform?
No. Those are full platforms; ELDAS is a design-and-verification suite. It covers the studies that sizing and review need (load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash to IEEE 1584) and leaves dynamics, transients and plant operation to the specialist tools.
Can I use ELDAS to check a study from another program?
Yes, as a second opinion: build the network in the Studies tab from the LV and MV model and compare the figures. Schedules and results export to Excel and CSV for a line-by-line comparison.
Where do the standards in ELDAS come from?
From the documents held in the ASH library, entered from the text and not from memory. Where a standard is not held, the clause is named and the value is labelled ‘engineering default’. See the validation page.
